What is Grateful Living?

Brother David Steindl-Rast was born in Vienna in 1926 and witnessed the horrors of WWII before leaving for the shores of America. At nearly 100 years of age, he is an internationally beloved teacher with the simple message that gratefulness can bring us together, even in the most challenging times. “Joy is that kind of happiness that doesn’t depend on what happens,” he tells us. A Benedictine monk who has bridged cultures and and religions as a student of Zen, he envisioned Grateful Gatherings as an opportunity for people from all walks of life and religious or cultural backgrounds to come together in the community of meaningful conversations.* Join us as we bring Brother David’s vision to life in his birthplace!

*Grateful Gatherings explore universal ideas and themes. They are open to all and do not include religious doctrine of any kind.
